The Challenge

Capture emails at a trade show
without a boring form

VensureHR Staffing Alliance had a booth at a weekend event and wanted to collect contact information from attendees — but a standard lead capture form wasn't going to cut it. People at trade shows are moving fast and have low patience for anything that feels like homework.

The goals were specific: make participation feel like fun, not a chore; capture the email early (before the quiz, not after); store results automatically for a raffle at the end of the event; and give people a reason to care — a $400 Traxxas Slash 4×4 RC car for whoever scored 100%.

"Can we make it so the person sees the car before they even start the quiz?"

"Yes. We can make that happen."

The Experience

Designed together —
"can we do X?" "yes, let's."

I built this in close collaboration with the company's graphic designer. She pushed for the experience she imagined — motivating reveal, animated start button, instant feedback — and I confirmed and built every idea. The technical decisions were shaped entirely by what would make the experience feel alive.

The Smart Part

Lead captured before
the quiz even starts

The data capture strategy was built in two phases — ensuring the team had every contact regardless of whether the person finished the quiz.

Phase 1 — On Submit
Contact info stored immediately
The moment the person hit Submit on the contact form, their name, email, phone, and company were saved to the database and appeared in the VSA Quiz admin tab — with the score column still empty. Even if they put down the phone and never finished the quiz, the lead was already captured.
Phase 2 — On Quiz Complete
Score updated automatically
When the person answered the last question and their score was shown, the plugin updated the same database record with their percentage. The admin table reflected the result in real time — no manual work, no spreadsheets, no cross-referencing.

The Result

The quiz worked.
Really well.

The event ran over the weekend. Attendees scanned the QR, played the quiz, and the VSA Quiz tab filled up in real time — contacts and scores captured automatically, ready for the raffle the moment the event closed.

Fun fact

Of all the attendees who played the quiz across the entire event weekend, only one person answered all 8 questions correctly. They won the Traxxas Slash 4×4. No tiebreaker needed — the quiz itself decided. The questions were genuinely challenging enough that a perfect score was actually an achievement.

On collaboration

I built this alongside the company's graphic designer, question by question — she'd ask "can we make it do X?" and my answer was always "yes, let's make it possible." The best features came from that dynamic: her pushing the experience forward, me never saying no to a good idea.
